This is Mark Brandt's second outing as a solo pianist committed to improvisational works which occur in the moment of recording. These pieces are more song like in their structure as they have melodies and chord changes much like the standards most musicians improvise over. With the exception of The Sacred Heart (track 1), Contemplation (track 6), and First Friday (track 12), all three of which were completely written out, the composed themes are predominantly improvised as Brandt rarely plays any of his pieces the same way twice. The twelve pieces on this CD were actually recorded in the order that they appear-one take each-on June 11, 1999. They were remastered and released by Lionheart Music on June 25, 2007.
